What’s The Latest On AIME’s Lobbying Efforts?

Mortgage News April 14, 2023

The idea of advocacy efforts within an organization may seem abstract to some, but those who actively engage in such efforts understand the process. At a recent conference hosted by the Association of Independent Mortgage Experts (AIME), a panel of experts provided clarity on the topic. They shared specific details on what the trade group has accomplished since it began lobbying efforts last year.

During the Hall of AIME event held in Naples, Florida last month, Brendan McKay, who serves as the President of Broker Advocacy for AIME, moderated a panel discussion on advocacy efforts being undertaken by the organization. Among the panelists was Janine Kempfer, the Vice President of Impact at AIME and the President of Prime Mortgage, who is also an advocate for improved access to borrowing options for underserved communities and increased homeownership opportunities for Black borrowers

The panel at the Hall of AIME event also included two members from Forbes Tate Partners, a lobbying firm that AIME enlisted in May of last year to help the organization advocate its positions to policymakers in Washington D.C. AIME officials stated that the firm specializes in developing communication and engagement strategies to connect with important audiences. Forbes Tate Partners is a nonpartisan public affairs company that provides a range of services such as government relations, traditional and digital communications, grassroots advocacy, third-party coordination, insights, polling, coalition management, and business development.

Kelley Williams, a specialist lobbyist with expertise in financial services and banking, represented Forbes Tate Partners on the panel as its Senior Vice President. Williams was previously the Associate Vice President of Legislative Affairs for the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) before she joined the firm. Jeff Strunk, the Managing Partner at Forbes Tate Partners and a 13-year veteran of the firm, also joined the panel. Strunk previously worked for former Speaker of the House John Boehner on Capitol Hill.
